CPL Talk: Jay Herdman making a splash with Cavalry FC
In a 1-on-1 interview, John Herdman's son discusses his loan spell with the CPL's Cavalry FC, playing at the Paris Olympics and more.
While Toronto FC coach John Herdman is planning for next season, his son is gearing up to play in one of the biggest games of his young career.
Jay Herdman, a 20-year-old midfielder, is currently on loan for Cavalry FC, who will host Forge FC in Saturday's CPL Finals (3:00 p.m. ET/OneSoccer & CBC).
Herdman previously served as captain of the Whitecaps FC 2, Vancouver's affiliate club in MLS NEXT Pro, where he had nine goals and five assists in 46 all-time appearances. He joined the Whitecaps youth academy in 2017 before signing with Whitecaps FC 2 in 2022. Herman made his MLS debut for the Whitecaps as a late-game substitute in 2-0 win over the Seattle Sounders on April 20.
After competing for New Zealand at this summer’s Paris Olympics, Herdman was sent on loan to Cavalry where he has scored one goal and tallied an assist in seven games, helping the Cavs reach their second consecutive CPL Final.
In a one-on-one interview, TFC Republic spoke to Herdman about his loan spell with Cavalry, playing in this weekend's CPL championship match, his experience in Paris, and much more.
