'Intensity' the buzzword in Canadian camp for TFC players

Kobe Franklin and Deandre Kerr were warned about Jesse Marsch's intensity prior to this week's Canadian men's team camp.

'Intensity' the buzzword in Canadian camp for TFC players

Toronto FC’s MLS regular season ended a month ago, but six of its players have been hard at work at the club’s practice facility this week, putting their noses to the grindstone.

A special pre-training camp conducted by Canadian men’s team coach Jesse Marsch features 19 North-American players, including TFC captain Jonathan Osorio and teammates Richie Laryea, Deandre Kerr, Kobe Franklin and Adam Pearlman. TFC 2 defender Richard Chukwu has also been called in ahead of Canada’s Concacaf Nations League two-legged quarter-final vs. Suriname later this month.

Of the TFC players in camp, only Osorio (81 caps) and Laryea (58) have senior national team experience, having played at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and at this summer’s Copa América. Franklin and Kerr (both 21 years old), 19-year-old Pearlman, and Chukwu (16) have all represented Canada at youth level.

What’s the one thing they’ve noted about this special camp about all else? The intensity. Not only are the training sessions intense, but they’ve found Marsh to be just as intense.
