CanMNT Flashback: Canada comes up short in Japan friendly
In this special flashback series for TFC Republic, we look back at interesting moments in the history of the Canadian men's team.
With Canada set to play Japan in an international friendly on Friday, we'll revisit when the Japanese earned a 2-1 win over the Canadians in Doha, Qatar on March 22, 2013.
Shinji Okazaki opened the scoring for the Japanese in the eighth minute before Marcus Haber’s first international goal levelled for the Canadians just before the hour mark at Khalifa International Stadium. Substitute Mike Havenaar netted the winner for Japan with 16 minutes left in regulation.
“We are frustrated with the way we conceded the two goals,” Canadian interim coach Tony Fonseca said after the game.
