CanMNT Talk: Mauro Biello era begins with humbling loss
The Canadian men's team had been off since July, and it showed in a 4-1 loss vs. Japan on Friday in an international friendly in Niigata.
Sloppy defending and untimely errors were the order of the day for Canada, as Japan took full advantage with some ruthless finishing, scoring twice late in the first half to take a 3-0 lead going into the break.
Jonathan David had a chance to tie things up after Japan scored inside the opening 90 seconds but failed to convert from the penalty spot. A fourth Japanese goal early in the second half killed off the Canadians, who salvaged a consolation goal in the 89th minute courtesy of substitute Junior Hoilett.
In the latest video blog, we breakdown Canada's loss and look ahead to November's Concacaf Nations League qualifiers that also double as the qualifying process for next year's Copa America.
