Youth movement bore fruit for TFC 2 during 2024 campaign
Despite TFC 2 not making the playoffs, there were some positives from the Young Reds in their MLS NEXT Pro season.
TFC 2 never got into a rhythm during what turned out to be stop-start 2024 MLS NEXT Pro season.
The Young Reds only won back-to-back matches on one occasion (in May), and struggled to put together a string of positive results as the campaign wore on.
Little wonder that TFC 2 failed to make the playoffs for a second straight year, finishing 12th out of 15 teams in the Eastern Conference, four spots and eight points out of a post-season berth.
But third-year coach Gianni Cimini saw plenty of positives from his team this year as he successfully integrated a lot of new signings (including Ythallo, Mark Fisher, Charlie Sharp, Charlie Staniland and Hassan Ayari), while also giving plenty of opportunities to youth academy players (most notably defender Richard Chukwu and midfielder Andrei Dumitru) so that they could continue in their development.
