Toronto FC miss out on MLS playoffs for 4th straight year
A home loss to Inter Miami in TFC's season finale on Saturday helped to officially eliminate them from playoff contention.
- Toronto FC 0, Inter Miami 1 (Campana 90’+3’)
- TFC were missing Federico Bernardeschi (suspended); Lorenzo Insigne played last 10 minutes
- Lionel Messi started on the bench for Mimai before being subbed on in the 61st minute
TORONTO – The playoff drought continues.
Fighting to stay alive in an ultra-tight playoff race, Toronto FC came up short in losing a 1-0 heartbreaker to Inter Miami on Saturday afternoon at BMO Field in its final match of the MLS regular season.
Leonardo Campana scored for Miami deep into injury time for the Supporters’ Shield winners, extending TFC’s winless skid to six matches in all competitions. The Reds closed out their 2024 campaign with just one win in their last eight contests.
More important, this result coupled with D.C. United’s 2-1 road win over the New England Revolution on Saturday night dropped TFC (11-19-4, 37 points) from ninth to tenth place in the Eastern Conference and officially eliminated them from playoff contention.
