CanWNT Talk: A shot at redemption for the Olympic champions
After a disastrous World Cup, Canada made adjustments and rebounded with poise and maturity to qualify to the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The Canadian women's team officially punched its ticket for the 2024 Paris Olympics with a 2-1 win over Jamaica on Tuesday night at Toronto’s BMO Field before an announced sellout crowd of 29,212. Canada swept the two-legged Concacaf qualifying series after earning a 2-0 win in Jamaica last week.
Cloé Lacasse and Jordyn Huitema scored for the Canadians who also automatically earned a berth at the 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup by virtue of their win in the two-legged playoff.
"I think I've been on a journey now with a group of players who've had the ultimate high, probably had the ultimate low," coach Bev Priestman told reporters after the game.
"And then I've seen them come out swinging. The bit that inspires me about the group is character, fight, hard work, working for the person next to you … Everybody's put a real shift in, players and staff, to do whatever we could to turn this around."
In the latest TFC Republic video blog, we break down Canada's win over Jamaica and look at the big takeaways from the Canadians over the two legs.
