Toronto FC blanked at home by Columbus Crew
TFC's playoff hopes took a hit with Wednesday’s shutout loss to the reigning MLS Cup champions.
- Toronto FC 0, Columbus Crew 2 (Hernández 51’; Herrera 71’)
- Insigne now without a goal in his last 11 MLS games for TFC
- Reds were missing 4 defenders through injuries and suspension
TORONTO – It was a valiant effort from Toronto FC in a game that on paper looked to be a complete mis-match.
Yet, TFC still came out on the wrong end of a 2-0 defeat to the MLS Cup champion Columbus Crew on Wednesday night at BMO Field.
Columbus (15-5-8) entered this match having already clinched a playoff berth and boasting the best defence in MLS and the second-best attack in the Eastern Conference. Thwarted by TFC through the opening 45 minutes, the Crew finally found another gear in the second half en route to earning their second win over the Reds to sweep the regular season series.
