Toronto FC GM 'a lot more confident' going into 2025

With Toronto FC fighting to lock down one of the final MLS playoff berths in the Eastern Conference, GM Jason Hernandez had hoped to make a series of roster moves during the summer transfer window to strengthen his squad.

But things didn’t exactly pan out that way and the club’s summer transfer activity was pretty underwhelming. Free agent defender Henry Wingo was signed to bolster the defence, Cassius Mailula was sent out on loan, promising prospect Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty was traded to CF Montreal, and Nathaniel Edwards and Charlie Sharp were promoted to the first team from TFC 2.

Hernandez would have liked to have completed more business, but said his hands were tied because he had very little available salary cap space with which to work. That resulted in a pretty quiet summer transfer window for Toronto's GM.
