Toronto FC's playoff hopes took a bit of a hit with Wednesday's 2-0 home loss to the Columbus Crew.

The reigning MLS Cup champions received second-half goals from substitute Cucho Hernández and Andres Herrera to sweep the season series against TFC.

Even with this loss, Toronto (11-16-3) kept hold of the eighth and second-last playoff berth in the Eastern Conference. But Atlanta United, CF Montreal, Philadelphia Union and Nashville all picked up points on Wednesday to close the gap on the Reds.

"I think the biggest thing for us is at the minute we're in it, we're in a playoff position, and we need to make sure we finish come the end of the season," Midfielder Matty Longstaff offered.
