Jesse Marsch has big goals for Canada during international window
It's been a busy few months for Jesse Marsch since his appointment in May as the new coach of the Canadian men's team.
His first two matches in charge were high-profile friendlies against France and the Netherlands in early June. After that brief European sojourn, Marsch turned his attention to the Copa América in the United States, where he guided Canada to a historic fourth-place showing in its tournament debut.
His team hasn't played since July 13, but Marsch has kept pretty busy since then, whether it's convincing midfielder Niko Sigur (HNK Hajduk Split), a 20-year-old from Burnaby, B.C., who was eligible for Croatia, to pledge his international allegiance to Canada by filing a FIFA-approved one-time switch. Or keeping close tabs on several Canadian players who earned transfers to European clubs over the summer. Or preparing for a pair of important friendlies against the U.S. in Kansas City (Sept. 7) and Mexico in Arlington, Texas (Sept. 10).
In this one-on-one interview with TFC Republic, Marsch discusses the upcoming friendlies, convincing dual nationals to commit to Canada, and much more.
