Fighting through tough times key to longevity of Toronto FC's Shane O'Neill
"What I know from Shane is you’re going to get an honest shift every time he plays," John Herdman said of the centre back.
Shane O’Neill has been around the block a few times in his soccer career.
The Ireland-born centre back who grew up in Colorado came up through the Colorado Rapids youth system before making his professional debut with the senior team during the 2012 MLS season just days after turning 19.
Stints with English club Cambridge United F.C., and NAC Breda and Excelsior Rotterdam in the Netherlands followed before he returned to MLS where he turned out for Orlando City and the Seattle Sounders.
Toronto FC has been home for O’Neill since former coach Bob Bradley signed him as a free agent prior to the 2022 regular season. Sixty-two of the 201 matches in all competitions he’s featured in for MLS clubs during his career have come for the Reds, more than any other team in the league.
