Toronto FC scores late to draw Atlanta FC in penultimate MLS match
TFC earned a 1-1 draw in Atlanta on Saturday thanks to some last-minute heroics from an unlikely source.
- Toronto FC 1 (Perruzza 88’), Atlanta United FC 1 (Araújo 15)
- TFC rests several starters ahead of Canadian Championship semis
- Perruzza scores his first MLS goal in 4 appearances for the Reds
Exactly two years ago tonight, Toronto FC advanced to its third MLS Cup final in four years with a memorable playoff victory in Atlanta.
Winning Eastern Conference championships and going to MLS Cup finals must seem like a lifetime ago for the current version of TFC, who came from behind to earn a dramatic 1-1 draw against Atlanta United FC on Saturday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
In all honesty, Atlanta had this game won but its wastefulness in front of goal allowed TFC to stay in it longer than they deserved before substitute Jordan Perruzza equalized in the final minutes of regulation time with his first career MLS goal. Perruzza was making only his fourth appearance for the Reds after debuting in the league earlier this season.
