TORONTO - Leave it to Toronto FC to put a dent in CF Montreal’s late-season push for a playoff spot.
Second-half substitute Jozy Altidore scored on a free kick deep into injury time from 24 yards out, allowing TFC to earn a dramatic 1-1 draw against CF Montreal on Saturday night at BMO Field.
Montreal seemed destined to record a clean sweep of Toronto in the Canadian Classique, but Altidore’s third goal of the season - and first since July 17 - helped the Reds salvage some pride against their bitter arch-rivals. Montreal won the previous two contests in MLS against Toronto this year.
"It felt great to score again. Especially against Montreal, who is always an added bonus with the rivalry," Altidore told reporters after the game.
