Random thoughts on TFC: Reds face a dilemma with Marshall-Rutty
Some random thoughts I had on Toronto FC as the club prepares to host Charlotte FC on Saturday...
What to do about Marshall-Rutty?
After not logging a single minute through the opening four games of the MLS season, Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty made the most of the opportunity granted to him in last Saturday’s 0-0 draw away to the San Jose Earthquakes.
Marshall-Rutty started and played 90 minutes at right fullback with Richie Laryea unavailable due to national team commitments, and it the youth academy product hardly looked out of place.
He was outstanding on both sides of the ball, calmly playing out from the back to help launch attacks and breaking up plays to win back possession. He ended up boasting a passing completion rate of 92.9 per cent and led Toronto with 24 duels.
