TFC hammered by D.C. as nightmare season continues

  • Toronto FC 1 (Akinola 39’), D.C. United 7 (Paredes 2’; Robertha 8’; Priso own-goal 21’; Arriola 71’; Kamara 81’; Asad 85’; Yow 90')
  • TFC have now lost 6 in a row & are winless in 7
  • Reds drop into last place in the overall MLS standings

It’s bad enough that Toronto FC is getting buried alive, but it feels obliged to keep shovelling more dirt into its grave plot.

A shell-shocked TFC gave up a trio of goals inside 21 minutes and never recovered, stumbling to their sixth loss in a row in an embarrassing 7-1 defeat at the hands of D.C. United on Saturday evening at Audi Field.

Ayo Akinola scored for Toronto (1-8-2), who is now winless in seven matches and has just five points in the bank. It’s the second-worst start to an MLS campaign by Toronto, trailing only the 2012 season when it took three points from its first 11 matches. This latest loss, which was the heaviest in club history, drops TFC into last place in the overall league standings. All this from a team with the biggest player payroll in MLS and who finished runners-up in last year's Supporters' Shield race. It beggars belief.
