Toronto FC falls flat in home loss to FC Cincinnati
- Toronto FC 1 (Jiménez 65’), FC Cincinnati 2 (Murphy 44’; Acosta 52’)
- TFC have now conceded in 17 consecutive MLS games
- Jiménez scores team-leading 7th goal; Akinola returns
TORONTO – The new-look Toronto FC continues to score goals at a steady clip in 2022. The problem is it continues to cough them up at an equally steady rate.
A pair of cheap goals by FC Cincinnati further underlined TFC’s defensive woes as they suffered their second straight loss in a 2-1 defeat to FC Cincinnati on Saturday afternoon before an announced crowd of 23,591 fans at BMO Field.
Jesús Jiménez’s team-leading seventh goal of the campaign was the highlight of an otherwise non-descript performance from the Reds in the opener of a home-and-home series against their Eastern Conference rivals. These teams will meet again next Wednesday at Cincinnati’s TLQ Stadium.
Toronto (3-4-2) is tied for the best attack in the Eastern Conference with 16 goals, but it also boasts the league’s second-worst worst defensive record (19 goals) through the first nine games of the campaign.
