From Toronto FC rookie to elder statesman: The evolution of Jonathan Osorio
Compared to some of the more famous teammates he’s had over the years, Jonathan Osorio’s debut for Toronto FC was pretty modest.
In the second week of the 2013 season, a 20-year-old Osorio stepped onto the pitch for the first time in an MLS match when he replaced Terry Dunfield in the 82nd minute of 2-1 win over Sporting Kansas City at Rogers Centre. Three weeks later he again came on as a second-half sub, this time scoring in a 2-2 draw against the LA Galaxy at BMO Field.
Osorio showed promise in those two brief cameo appearances, but few at the time could have envisioned that the upstart midfielder would go on to become one of the best players in TFC history. Nine years later, though, that’s exactly where Osorio stands, alongside Sebastian Giovinco, Michael Bradley and Jozy Altidore atop Toronto FC’s “Mount Rushmore.”
