Tactical breakdown: Jesús Jiménez's overall game a boon for Toronto FC
The Spaniard has shown genuine quality on both sides of the ball since coming to MLS, and has proven to be a gem of a signing by TFC.
Jesús Jiménez might’ve been the least heralded off-season signing for Toronto FC this year. Even though Jiménez had a decent goal-scoring record in Poland with Gornik Zabrze, many assumed he would be nothing more than a solid rotation option for Ayo Akinola when he returned to full fitness.
Well, it’s May and Akinola has only just returned to action. Yet it’s Jiménez who continues to start, and rightfully so. The 28-year-old forward has seven goals in 12 starts, only FC Dallas’ Jesús Ferreira (nine) is ahead of the Spaniard in the Golden Boot race.
The question now is whether this run is sustainable for the rest of the campaign. TFC is mired in a poor run of form, although reinforcements are coming in the form of Lorenzo Insigne to help right the ship.
Here’s a breakdown of Jiménez’s season thus far.
