Toronto FC clarifies captain Michael Bradley’s contract status
The midfielder has one more year on his current deal, and won't be eligible for unrestricted free agency until after the 2023 MLS season.
As it turns out, Toronto FC’s Michael Bradley won’t be out of contract at the end of the 2022 MLS season.
When TFC re-signed their captain in December 2019, the club issued a press release that made no mention of the length of the deal. However, at the time it was widely reported as being for three years.
On Thursday afternoon, a team official confirmed to TFC Republic and Neil Davidson of the Canadian Press that Bradley, 35, had signed a four-year contract with the Reds back in 2019.
That means the veteran midfielder has one more year left on his current deal after this season. The same TFC official said the club didn’t properly present the details of Bradley’s contract renewal back in 2019 when it made the public announcement.
