Toronto FC can't keep dwelling on the past - it's time to move on
TFC must realize that the glory years are over, and that they are in a far different place than two years ago when they reached the MLS Cup final.
Greg Vanney is long gone. So too are Tim Bezbatchenko, Sebastian Giovinco and Victor Vasquez.
All four men played major roles in Toronto FC’s historic 2017 campaign when it won the treble – MLS Cup, Supporters’ Shield and Canadian Championship – and set the league record for most points in a single season. They are club icons, their contributions deservedly remembered and celebrated all these years later.
But they aren’t coming back. None of them will be walking through the doors of the team’s training centre, or treading down the tunnel and on to the pitch at BMO Field. TFC’s incredible run of three MLS Cup appearances, finishing runners-up in the Concacaf Champions League, and winning three Canadian Championships within a four-year period is ancient history. MLS’s version of Camelot is no more. It’s time to move on.
