Toronto FC drops three valuable points on the road in Atlanta
TFC’s playoff hopes took another big hit in Saturday’s loss against Atlanta United FC.
- Toronto FC 2 (Akinola 52’; Bernardeschi 67’), Atlanta United FC 4 (Purata 47’, 62’, 89’; Almada 74’)
- Insigne missed game due to “a personal family situation”
- Bernardeschi scores his 8th goal in 10 MLS appearances
Lorenzo Insigne was nowhere to be found on Saturday night at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, but there were plenty of goals between Toronto FC and Atlanta United FC.
After a fairly uneventful first 45 minutes, the two teams combined for six second-half goals, with Atlanta coming out on top in an entertaining 4-2 victory.
Ayo Akinola and Federico Bernardeschi scored for TFC, who is now winless in three games and has conceded four goals in back-to-back losses.
Insigne didn’t travel with the team to Atlanta after missing practice earlier this week due to “a personal family situation,” according to the club. This was the first game that the former Napoli captain missed since making his MLS debut on July 23. Insigne has six goals and two assists in nine MLS appearances, all of them starts.
