State of the union: TFC can't hide from the damaging facts
The 2023 MLS season is shaping up to be one of the worst in Toronto FC's history, and it could end up eclipsing its disastrous 2012 campaign.
Could the 2023 MLS season end up going down as the worst in Toronto FC’s history?
It’s certainly trending that way. A campaign that began with dreams of a playoff berth has turned into a macabre nightmare for TFC, who have now lost six in a row and are winless in nine following last week’s 1-0 defeat away to the Chicago Fire.
This latest loss came about after TFC conceded in the final minute of regulation, wiping out some decent work over the previous 89 minutes and denying them what would’ve been a credible and well-earned point away from home.
"I mean, kind of the same tale, I think, of many games for us this season; the effort is definitely there. There are moments in the game where we have control and when it comes down to it, maybe it's just that final, final action," forward CJ Sapong offered after the loss.
