Toronto FC finally comes good at home in win over Nashville

TORONTO -- Well, how about that?

Stuck in a horrible rut in what has turned out to be a dark and overcast MLS season, Toronto FC saw a little bit of daylight on Saturday evening in the form of a well-deserved 2-1 win over Nashville SC. The victory was TFC's first of the campaign at BMO Field.

Jacob Shaffelburg and Omar Gonzalez scored on either side of halftime for last-place TFC (4-15-6), who snapped a six-game losing streak and a nine-match winless skid. Toronto’s previous victory was a 2-1 road decision over the Chicago Fire on July 24.

Saturday’s result was even more impressive as it came against one of the league's best sides. Nashville (10-3-11) entered the contest in second place in the Eastern Conference - a whopping 26 points ahead of Toronto - and riding a three-match winning streak. The visitors had also suffered just one loss in their previous 15 matches dating back to June 23. Of course, TFC remains rooted to the bottom of the MLS standings with no chance of making the playoffs, so in the grand scheme of things this win meant very little. But in a campaign that has produced few joyous highlights, the Reds will take any positive moments they can get at this point.
