TORONTO - Slowly but surely, Toronto FC is climbing up the ladder in the Eastern Conference, and inching closer and closer to the playoff line.
Omar Gonzalez scored for the first time in two seasons and Yeferson Soteldo collected an assist in guiding TFC to a 1-1 draw against Nashville SC on Sunday night at BMO Field.
The Reds more than held their own against Nashville, the fourth-best team in the East, in extending their season-high unbeaten run to five games (three draws). TFC is now two spots and eight points out of a playoff spot after sitting in the MLS basement for weeks on end under former coach Chris Armas.
With the result, Toronto improved to 3-8-5 on the season and climbed into 10th place in the East after starting the day in 12th. TFC is unbeaten and has claimed nine of a possible 15 points in five games since Javier Perez took over as interim coach following the firing of Armas on July 4. Toronto registered a meagre five points in 11 matches under Armas.
