Toronto FC vs. New England Revolution: What you need to know
The post-Chris Armas era begins for Toronto FC on Wednesday when it faces Eastern Conference leaders New England Revolution on the road.
The post-Chris Armas era begins for Toronto FC on Wednesday night when it faces another daunting road game, this time against the Eastern Conference leaders New England Revolution.
Toronto is coming off its heaviest defeat in franchise history last Saturday, a 7-1 road loss to D.C. United that dropped the club into last place in the MLS standings. Less than 24 hours later, former coach Chris Armas was axed.
The firing of Armas hardly came as a surprise considering the situation that TFC is in at the moment. The Reds have lost six games in a row, are winless in seven, and are off to the second worst start to an MLS season (1-8-2) in team history.
“The way we have been losing, especially since returning from the three-week (international) break, has been difficult to watch. When you see a team concede like we did (vs. D.C.), we just saw no way back outside of making the coaching change,” club president Bill Manning said.
Here’s what you need to know about Wednesday's game (7:30 p.m. ET) between TFC and New England at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.
