TORONTO -- A sparkling display by Alejandro Pozuelo and an inspired double substitution nearly led to a remarkable come-from-behind win by Toronto FC on Saturday night.
Down 2-0, interim coach Javier Perez bravely subbed out star forward Jozy Altidore and captain Michael Bradley at the start of the second half. With two key players on the bench, Pozuelo stepped up after the halftime break by scoring one goal and setting up another to guide the Reds to a 2-2 draw against New York City FC at BMO Field.
It was a moral victory of sorts for TFC (3-9-6), but they would have much preferred the genuine kind, as they sit 12th in the Eastern Conference, just two points ahead of last-place Inter Miami and nine points behind the Columbus Crew who hold down the seventh and final playoff berth in the East.
