Late goal sinks Toronto FC in home loss to Orlando City
- Toronto FC 0, Orlando City 1 (Smith 90’+2’)
- TFC hasn’t kept a clean sheet in 20 MLS games
- Reds without a point since April 16 win vs. Philly
TORONTO - For the second week in a row an opponent's late goal completely wiped out a pretty decent performance by Toronto FC.
Kyle Smith’s glancing header off a corner kick deep into injury time snuck in at the far post, allowing Orlando City to earn a 1-0 win over the Reds on a gloriously sunny Saturday afternoon at BMO Field.
A collective groan could be heard from the announced crowd of 26, 146 when Smith’s header settled into the back of the net that sent TFC to their fifth straight loss. It was the second game in a row that a goal at the death sunk the Reds, who dropped a 1-0 decision away to the Vancouver Whitecaps last week. On the balance of play, both that loss and Saturday's result were harsh on Toronto. But fortune favours brave teams who can close out games and find ways to win.
