The five best South Americans to play for Toronto FC
South Americans have been few and far between at Toronto FC since the club’s first MLS season in 2007.
Hundreds of players from countries all over the world have taken to the pitch at BMO Field for the Reds at one time or another. But only 16 have come from South America, a shockingly low number considering the continent’s status in the international game and reputation for churning out world-class talent.
This week’s signing of Venezuelan international Yeferson Soteldo saw TFC turn to a part of the world it has rarely looked to before for a Designated Player - there have been 14 DPs in club history, but only four have been from South America.
