Toronto FC shut out for 8th time in loss to FC Cincinnati
TFC are now winless in four games following Wednesday night’s limp effort away to Cincinnati.
- Toronto FC 0, FC Cincinnati 3 (Arias 35’; Acosta 54’; Badji 62’)
- TFC have earned just four out of 27 points on the road in 2023
- Ranjitsingh starts in goal; 1st MLS appearance since 2020
An 11-day layoff was supposed to help Toronto FC rest, refocus and rejuvenate after enduring a rough first half of the MLS season.
Instead, it was the same old TFC on Wednesday night in a 3-0 loss away to FC Cincinnati at TQL Stadium. The Reds had been off since a draw at home vs. Nashville SC on June 10, but the time off didn't appear to do them much good.
TFC (3-6-10) looked positively lethargic, and barely caused Cincinnati any problems as they saw their winless streak extended to four games (one loss, three draws). With just 17 goals in 19 games, Toronto sports one of the worst offensive records in the league, and has now been shut out eight times this season.
Italian DPs Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Bernardeschi failed to spark an attack that looked stagnant against Cincinnati’s makeshift three-man back line. Forward CJ Sapong was subbed out after an ineffective first half, while acting captain Jonathan Osorio had a quiet evening in central midfield.
