State of the union: Osorio calls it like it is during TFC's dark days
Jonathan Osorio is only Toronto FC’s acting captain at the moment, although he will one day wear the armband on a permanent basis.
With Michael Bradley still recovering from a hamstring issue that has sidelined him since April, Osorio has taken over as club captain both on and off the field, assuming the mantle of leadership during very turbulent times for TFC. But Osorio is already acting like the team’s full-time captain, and any doubts over whether he is up to the job of eventually succeeding Bradley were erased after last week’s 1-0 home loss to Atlas Fútbol Club in the Leagues Cup.
Despite TFC conceding in the second minute, it wasn’t a bad overall effort from the home side. Considering their recent run of form, the Reds could take some small comfort in limiting the Liga MX club to just one goal, especially after a 5-0 loss away to New York City FC four days earlier. Osorio wasn’t interested in talking about moral victories or looking for silver linings, though.
