Two games against Canadian rivals, two lacklustre performances from Toronto FC.
Homegrown defender Luke Singh scored his first MLS goal and Jonathan Osorio came off the bench to net a late equalizer as TFC earned a 2-2 draw with the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday afternoon in their home opener at Orlando’s Exploria Stadium.
It’s the first MLS point for Toronto under new coach Chris Armas since he succeeded Greg Vanney, but he could’ve just as easily walked away without anything had it not been for Osorio’s freak goal. An attempted defensive clearance by the Whitecaps inside their box deflected off Vancouver midfielder Michael Baldisimo and fell to Osorio in front of the goal. Goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau got a hand on Osorio's shot, but not much of one, as he managed to swipe the ball off the post and into the back of the net.
